In 1904 my elderly great, great, grandparents, their son and daughter and families arrived on the Alberta prairies where the Moore’s would live and farm for over 100 years. Their

journey started several years earlier when they emigrated from England, being enticed as many were, by the dream of owning land in Canada. Landing on the prairies with a small amount of livestock, seed and knowledge of the prairies they started their life here.
My grandfather (1901 – 1982) has told us several stories of his father and grandfather spending their first year living in a tent and then graduating to a sod house for several years until a wooden home could be built. One night when he was only 6 or 7 years old a severe winter storm literally tore the roof off of their sod house, they had to run 2 miles to get help at the neighbours in the night. One of many challenges to face the pioneers of the day, but as tough as it was their dreams of owning land and working it was realized. Here are some of our family photographs that date back to the early 1900’s, please feel free to take a small journey though 100 years on our farm.
