Though included in this package of prairie grass seeds, Safflower is not technically a grass. However, it is an annual with excellent ornamental qualities. By mid summer Safflower produces bulb type heads that are filled with down, from which the flower emerges. Use as a background for smaller flowers, or mix it up with the annual grasses. The stems are strong enough to stand in the snow and will add some interest for your "winterscapes".
